How We Are Celebrating Thanksgiving Safely

5 Adjustments We’ve Made to Celebrate Thanksgiving Safely This Year

As an event planner and very family-oriented individual, 2020 has proven to be a difficult year. My heart longs to be able invite people over again! Pre-COVID, any reason to have family and friends over to host a celebration was an opportunity that I always welcomed. Eventually we will be able to celebrate as we did before, and hopefully will no longer take the simple act of gathering with the ones we love for granted. Until then, here is a peak into how we are safely celebrating the first major holiday to kick-off the holiday season.

An Intimate Dinner Instead of having the normal 15 – 20 guests over for Thanksgiving dinner, we opted to have only those who are already in our “bubble” of people we interact with on a daily basis.

Sharing A Virtual Meal For the family members outside of our home who we’ll miss seeing in person this year, we plan to Facetime those individuals at a certain time so we’ll still be able to celebrate the holiday with them.

Personal Appetizers Instead of the charcuterie display I had planned that would span the length of my kitchen island (sigh), I’ve adjusted my plans to include a personal charcuterie box for each individual. I think they turned out so cute!

Black Friday Shopping, Virtually I’ll be the first to admit I am not a fan of Black Friday, so there wasn’t much love lost to begin with. To me, there is just nothing appealing to standing in long lines unless it’s for a ride at Disney! However, while I’m heating up leftovers, I may be checking out what online retailers have to offer prior to Cyber Monday.

Catching A Movie at Home In the past, when we’ve had early Thanksgiving dinners, we’ve ventured out to the movie theater when there was a movie out my daughter wanted to see (insert flashbacks to Frozen 2 here). This year you’re most likely to find us on the couch watching a Christmas movie after we’ve completely stuffed our faces and changed into our sweats!

Whatever your Thanksgiving plans look like this year, it is our sincerest hope is that you find a way to celebrate safely!
